Accelrys Materials Studio Visualizer is the graphical modeling and analysis environment of the Materials Studio suite from Accelrys Software Inc. It provides an intuitive, Windows-based workspace for building, visualizing, and editing atomic-scale models of molecules, crystals, polymers, surfaces, and nanostructures. Visualizer streamlines the preparation of simulation inputs and the interpretation of results from Materials Studio’s quantum, classical, and mesoscale modeling modules, helping scientists move efficiently from structure creation to property insight.

Key capabilities:

  • Structure building and editing: Create and refine molecules, periodic crystals, polymers, surfaces/slabs, defects, dopants, and nanotubes/2D materials with symmetry and crystallographic tools.
  • Advanced visualization: Interact with 3D models; render unit cells, supercells, isosurfaces, density maps, and trajectories; generate publication-quality images and animations.
  • Simulation workflow support: Set up model chemistry and force-field parameters, define boundary conditions, and inspect outputs such as energies, geometries, trajectories, and (with corresponding modules) electronic properties.
  • Analysis tools: Measure distances, angles, and torsions; evaluate coordination environments; compute and visualize structural statistics such as radial distribution functions and mean square displacement.
  • Data interoperability: Import and export common scientific formats (e.g., CIF, PDB, MOL, XYZ) and read/write Materials Studio module files to integrate with broader research workflows.
  • Automation and reproducibility: Organize projects, capture modeling steps, and automate routine tasks via scripting to ensure consistent, shareable studies.

Typical users include materials scientists, computational chemists, solid-state chemists, polymer scientists, and surface scientists who need a robust, integrated environment for atomistic model creation, simulation setup, and results analysis.

Note: Accelrys later became part of Dassault Systèmes; the product may also be known under the BIOVIA Materials Studio brand.

Accelrys Materials Studio Visualizer is developed by Accelrys Software Inc. The most popular version of this product among our users is 4.4. The name of the program executable file is MatStudio.exe.
